Board and Batten in the Bathroom

Well I haven't posted anything FOREVER, but I must admit I've had a good excuse, really. . .

These little cuties take up most of my time.  The rest of the time I'm busy doing everything else.  So finding a few spare moments for fun projects doesn't come that often.  Before my baby girl came along though I was determined to update the kids' bathroom.  Here are a couple before shots.

This second picture is the wall behind the door.  I had done a faux finish with a plastic grocery sack. But I was getting a little tired of the look and decided I want to try my hand at installing board and batten and some hooks for the kids' towels.

I went to home depot and bought the primed MDF boards.  I had Home Depot cut the wood for me.  I painted the wall white, then installed the boards with finishing nails - by hand I might add.  It was such a pain, but it turned out just as I had envisioned.  I caulked and sanded all the holes, then gave it a couple coats of white paint.  I left the existing baseboards and simply added a 1x2 along the bottom so I would have a straight edge.  You can see it in this photo.

Here you can see a close up of the hooks, which I bought at Walmart.  Now the towels don't end up on the floor anymore.

On the top, I added the same 1x2 board, to make a small ledge.  I just love how it turned out.  It really brightened up the room too.

This was a beginner project for me and I think I did pretty good.  More bathroom updates to come.
