Kids' Bathroom - Updated

Here are a couple pictures of the "Before" of the kids' bathroom.  These are from the listing.

The vanity really needed some love. It looked pretty worn and the sink was so shallow.  So while the plumber was at our house replacing all the toilets, we had him remove the counter and sink.

I decided to use my gel stain and give the vanity a fresh new look.

Here you can see the before and after of the cupboard doors.

Once the doors were done, I stained the base as well.

We had the granite installed a couple weeks later.

Had a new faucet installed.

The wall behind the door had some towel hooks on it, which I removed.

I painted the bottom portion white and added board and batten and some hooks for the towels.  I painted the top part a blue color as well as the rest of the bathroom.

I also had some towels made with the kids' names.

I hung the kids' bathtub photos about their towel hooks too.

I added hardware to the drawers and put up some new towel rods and toilet paper holder too.

I found this cute bath sign at Kohls.

I love how it turned out!  I would still really like to frame out the mirror, but because of the placement of the faucet, there may not be enough room, it's pretty tight to the mirror.  So glad to have it all done.

Family Room - Done for Now

Well this room has only taken about a year to come together since moving in last fall.  It's been pretty gradual but I love it now.   We started off with a blank slate.  BEFORE:

The couches, end tables, lamps and desk we brought with us, but shortly after moving in I found the entertainment center on a classified website and we also purchased our first big screen tv (my birthday present last year).  But I was also left with lots of blank walls to fill.  Fast forward a year and here it is.  AFTER:

One project that I hope to do - maybe next summer is dress up these windows a little more, maybe add some trim and switch out the mini blinds (that's what came with the house).  But we'll just add those projects to my huge "to do - wish list" but for now, it will have to do.

Buh, Bye Oak end tables

I've been wanting to do this project all summer and finally tackled it recently since our fall weather is sticking around a little longer than expected.

I bought these end tables years ago as one of my first furniture purchases.  They're really nice heavy duty oak tables.  Since we moved last year, I've added other pieces of furniture but they have had more of a walnut or espresso finish, so I decided these could use a little face lift too.  I used my handy dandy General Finishes Gel Stain -  Antique Walnut (purchased on Amazon).  I only did one coat and called it good.

It's just enough stain to give it a whole new look, but also not making them too dark.  I love how they turned out.

Now the room is finally coming together!

Throw Pillows

I love throw pillows!  But I must say lately, they're pretty steep - I can't justify paying $20-30 for a single pillow even when they're super cute and especially with kiddos who might get it dirty in a matter of minutes.  Even shopping at discount stores like Ross and TJ Maxx, it's hard to find nice pillows for super cheap.  So I found the next best thing - pillow covers!

I had seen pillow covers at Hobby Lobby before, but had never tried any.  One day while shopping online I came across some really cute ones.  I ordered two of each of these for $4.99 since they were half off.

I also got 4 of the plain linen ones for $2.99 each.  I put them under the pattern ones just to add more depth and because I love pillows.  I didn't love the matching throw pillows that came with our couch, so using cheap, but quality pillow covers just makes me happy.  I love how I can easily remove the covers and wash them when needed too.  They are nice quality covers with a zipper for easy on and off access.

Amazon carries a huge selection of pillow covers as well.  That's where I found the ones with sayings, like this one and the pictured above.

These came in a 4-pack for about $16.  They have plenty of seasonal ones too, that way you don't have to buy all new pillows and worry about storing them, you can just switch up the covers.

I love how the pillows look on the couches now - even though I end up picking them up off the floor several times a day because the kids are always messing around doing something.

What about you - have you tried pillow covers?  Where is your favorite place to buy them?
